- Crisis Team … Thank you for your sweet, sensitive, and patient support of our students in crisis over the past few weeks (and there have been many).
- Thanks to all that participated in the ‘Countdown to Spring Break’ festivities. What a wonderful way to keep our minds happy and fun during the grueling final days! AND, thanks, Sunshine Committee, for sharing your joy & creativity with us!
General Updates
The purpose of the PTA-sponsored grant program is to provide teachers with the opportunity to receive funding for conferences, programs or projects that will build their professional capacity and therefore enhance the educational experience of Wiley students.
Proposed projects should tie into Wiley’s International Studies Magnet theme or support the teacher's professional development goals and proposed projects should directly benefit students.
Priority will be given to applications that include:
o Collaboration between teachers (e.g, by grade level, by learning cohort, by subject area across grades)
o Cross-utilization of materials for other classes or curriculum areas
o Thinking beyond the classroom
o Creative ideas for integrating curriculum
o Professional development
Grant applications can include requests for the following:
o Substitute coverage while you are attending a conference
o Travel expenses to attend a conference at US government rates (hotel and per diem for meals).
o Mileage driven in your own car to attend a conference at US government rates (currently 53.5 cents a mile)
o Curriculum materials, software, apps
o Conference fees
o Day-long retreats for learning cohorts
Grants will not be given for the following:
o Substitute coverage, travel expenses for conferences that you are required to attend as a part of your job
o Prizes / Awards for students

~Intent forms - 2017/18 Intent forms were placed in your mailboxes yesterday - due Thursday, April 20. These forms are intended for certified staff only.
~Single Subject Acceleration - The nomination window for parents to nominate their child to be tested for Single Subject Acceleration is April 6-26. More information is available on http://wakeacceleration.weebly.com/ . Please make sure all nomination forms are put in Eman Ziada Brandt’s mailbox, as soon as you get them. Thank you!
~ Revised K-8 Mathematics Standards: North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Mathematics Section staff have developed a survey to seek public input on the second draft of the state’s revised K-8 Mathematics Standards. The second draft takes into account local school district feedback. The draft standards are available online for your review prior to completing the survey. The survey deadline is 5 p.m., April 20.
IRT/Literacy Updates
- (REPEAT) Read to Achieve Summer Camp Teacher Postings: All jobs have been posted in Applitrack. HERE is a document that will explain how to apply for the jobs in Applitrack. Lead Teachers and administration will set up interviews for the positions at a later date.
- **Wiley Cohort Sessions are now in eSchools ACTION REQUIRED: Please note that this may be a little different than the procedure from last year. In order to receive your credits, ALL teachers who participated in a learning cohort this year at Wiley are expected to register for their cohort in eSchools. After our cohort share on May 12th you will be marked attended and you will be notified to complete the evaluation to receive your credits. All cohort participants will receive 1.5 credits. Please see below for the SRN numbers for your cohort. **If eSchools will not let you register due to a conflicting training on your schedule, email me and I will override the system and register you for the cohort.

- Creativity Cohort, Equity and Communication and National Boards: Register for SRN#173506302
- K-2 EOY Math Assessments: The administration of EOY Summative Assessments is required by DPI for K-2 teachers. The assessments, which were created by DPI have gone to print and should arrive in schools by early May. They will also be posted to CMAPP under the Resources tab for each grade level. Teachers may begin administering the assessments as soon as they are received. They may administer the assessment as a whole or as individual items. Before the end of the school year, teachers should enter the results of the assessments in OASIS.
Magnet Updates
- Elective Report Cards - Elective Report Card Grades need to be complete by 4/14. It is important that classroom teachers be able to print them and get them stuffed prior to the final due date of 4/17. Thank you for making sure your part is done!
- (Repeat) WALK FOR WATER EVENT - Wiley is joining forces with Broughton High School to be a part of their Walk for Water Event that will take place on April 29. The flyers are going home in Monday Folders. Here are the links for for the flyer and further instructions.
- (Repeat) Picture It Now has more details and you can sign up now, it is available for 144 classrooms. Registration just opened on Friday! (This is for any classrooms that choose not to do “The Day the Crayons Quit” project.)

Media & Technology
- HAPPY SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH!! - One way we will be celebrating School Library Month is with a Reading Challenge for the students. Lynn will have copies of the challenge form in the media center. Students only need to read 4 items in a row to complete the challenge. There is a spot where either you or a parent will need to sign off that the student actually read the book, magazine, etc. Thank you for your help with this.
- Lost Library Cards - Please take a moment to do a library card check. Several students have come to the media center recently saying they’ve lost their cards. I simply don’t have enough extra cards to keep making new ones. Thanks!

Monday Meeting activity: We ask that you start each week with a team building activity during your Monday morning meeting. This is a positive way to start each week reconnecting with your class. This week's activity is:
Take 3 minutes at the start of your day to build up your classroom culture with movement. This dance-a-long ode to friendship will set an inclusive and accepting tone for the day.

PBIS reminders:
· Please continue to be at your duty location when the bell rings. The duties are posted in the Playbook.
· Continue to pass out Globetrotters. Extra Globetrotters, Wiley Winner forms and certificates can be found in the lounge.
· Each Monday, please do the connection activity with your class during morning meeting.
· Please document behaviors. Find some systems that works for you so you have trigger points, time of day what you did and did it work all written down. We must have this information written down.
