Shout-Outs & Celebrations
(Consider sharing your shout-out!)
- Way to go Team Wiley … a safe and “uneventful” evacuation & release to parents!
- We loved hearing the chatter and feeling the energy after UN Council mtgs last Friday!
General Updates
~ EVAAS roster verification - Roster verification for teachers opens April 21, and you will receive an email soon with directions for doing so. In an effort to minimize the amount of “cleaning up” that is necessary on my end to balance out student percentages, we will work together on the workday (May 12) to complete this task. It should be quick, and all providers claiming a percentage of your students should be present to ensure that every student is claimed 100%. If you’d like to begin working on your percentages, that’s great … just know that we will work together to finalize the rosters.
~Teacher Appreciation Week - Don’t forget to sign up for your lunch choice: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Wileyherolunch
*If you see Melissa Dennis or Elyse Lyons, PLEASE let them know how excited we are about the week they have planned. They’ve poured a ton of energy into the event and it looks fabulous!!
~ Cohort Learning Share-Out - Each cohort will provide a 10-15 minute presentation to showcase their new learning beginning at 10:30am on Friday, May 12. Please be sure to highlight implications of your new learning on your instructional practices AND provide clear examples for ways others can replicate your work. Any mode of presentation will work!
~Single Subject Acceleration - The nomination window for parents to nominate their child to be tested for Single Subject Acceleration is April 6-26. More information is available on http://wakeacceleration.weebly.com/ . Please make sure all nomination forms are put in Eman Ziada Brandt’s mailbox. I have to order materials by end of day on April 26 so please make sure all forms make it to my mailbox as soon as you get them.Thank you!
IRT/Literacy Updates
- mClass PROGRESS MONITORING: Here is the link to the Progress Monitoring Passages. Scroll down to the blue shaded box that has the folder General Running Record Assessments. Click on the sub-folder L-Z Running Records. From there, you can print the student and teacher copies. I suggest using a page protector and dry erase marker for your teacher copies.
***Remember that your students only need to read 100-150 words for the TRC progress monitoring. You DO NOT administer the written comprehension and you one administer ONE level. Use the level you are working on during guided reading. - K-2 EOY Assessments:
The administration of EOY Summative Assessments is required by DPI for K-2 teachers. The assessments, which were created by DPI have gone to print and should arrive in schools by early May. They will also be posted to CMAPP under the Resources tab for each grade level. Teachers may begin administering the assessments as soon as they are received. The may administer the assessment as a whole or as individual items. Before the end of the school year, teachers should enter the results of the assessments in OASIS.
NKT - EOY Window:
The NKT window is May 22nd - June 2nd. First grade teachers benchmark ALL students. Kindergarten teachers, students who were 13 or above at BOY/MOY do not need to be benchmarked.

Media & Technology
- HAPPY SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH!! - Thank you for celebrating our media center with me on Friday. There is still one week left for students to complete the reading challenge.
- Lost Library Cards (REPEAT) - Please take a moment to do a library card check. Several students have come to the media center recently saying they’ve lost their cards. I simply don’t have enough extra cards to keep making new ones. Thanks!
PBIS UPDATES
Monday Meeting activity: Encore!
Students team up to connect vocabulary words with favorite songs.
How to do this group activity:
1. Place students into small groups of four or five.
2. Call out a word or topic related to a unit of study (for example, a weather or science term, historical event or person, number or math term, or adjectives and adverbs).
3. Give groups a few minutes to brainstorm songs they know that contain that word or connect to the topic.
4. Have each group sing or chant a line or verse from one or two songs from their brainstorming.
Tips for Success:
· Before starting, ask students, “What will it look and sound like to work together in your group?” Model these behaviors (taking turns listening and talking, accepting others’ ideas, and so on).
· Reinforce positive behaviors. For example: “I noticed everyone in the group sharing ideas and listening to their classmates. That made it fun for everyone!”
Skills: cooperation, vocabulary, recall
Variations:
- List all the songs the class came up with. Then choose a few favorites to sing later.
- After groups sing a line or verse, see if the other students can “Name That Tune!”
PBIS reminders:
· Please continue to be at your duty location when the bell rings. The duties are posted in the Playbook.
· Continue to pass out Globetrotters. Extra Globetrotters, Wiley Winner forms and certificates can be found in the lounge.
· Each Monday, please do the connection activity with your class during morning meeting.
· Please document behaviors. Find some systems that works for you so you have trigger points, time of day what you did and did it work all written down. We must have this information written down.
