Shout-Outs & Celebrations
  • Wiley recently earned Green Ribbon recognition for its Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) implementation efforts!
  • Big thanks to all that provided coverage for our incredible professional learning Friday morning!  What a grand success!
  • Second Grade has found a way to make this election season positive and to make many ELA standards relevant. They have nominated their favorite books characters and cited evidence from the text to support the character traits that make them ideal candidates for president. They have already had the primaries, and the general election and inaugural ball are coming soon. How fun!
  • Ms. Dow is putting problem-solving in the hands of her students in a very real way. The DowTown council members bring community problems to the student mayor. The mayor sits with student advisors and generates solutions to these problems to present to Ms. Dow. #powertothepeople

General Updates
  • Pep Rally:  Our Broughton High School friends in the ‘giving with perfection’ group (the same group that has organized our 5th-grade kickball game the last two years) are inviting all Wiley families to the Broughton HS v. Heritage HS football game on Friday, November 4th @ 7:00. Many of the gentlemen on are on the football team and are excited about hosting our Wiley students for the game. To generate some excitement around the opportunity, members of the team (and possibly a few cheerleaders) are helping to plan a pep rally for Thursday afternoon (Nov. 3rd). The rally will be very simple and will conclude with an autograph session. AND, our Wiley band will also be performing!! *Due to the players’ practice schedule, we’re still trying to figure out who & when! Specific details to come.
  • Sundays:  We are quite fortunate that Ann is willing to allow access to the building on Sundays during church. If you chose to take advantage of this opportunity, it is expected that you check-in with Ann upon arrival and departure to prevent alarm snafus.
  • Community Agreements - Reminder: You will find a copy of the Wiley Community Agreements in your box. Please take a moment to review these agreements. We have noticed an uptick in problem behaviors in the hallways during arrival and during other transitions, many of which could be mitigated with increased adult presence.
  • Transition Schedule: The link to the duties for transitions along with dismissal times can be found here. Adhere to both in order to maintain safety during these less structured times.

General Updates
  • Report Card Comments:
    • Please offer celebrations and growth opportunities in the comment sections of the report card - be specific when you can do so regarding academic skills.
    • You may use this section to address work habits/behavior concerns but such concerns should not consume the message you wish to convey, and positive suggestions for corrective measures should be added.
    • If there are major concerns (academic/behavior), the report card should NOT be the first line of communication with a parent/guardian.
    • Interventions should be specific … but be careful in using “education jargon” that parents may not understand or may misinterpret.
    • Put yourself in the shoes of the parent … what would you want to know and what feelings would you want to feel?
  • Picture Make-Ups: Picture make-up day will be on Monday, November 7th for students who need makeup pictures, or who were absent on the original picture day. See Carol for more information.
