Shout-Outs & Celebrations
(Consider sharing your shout-out!)
- If you happen to see Cye Jones, 5th grader, please congratulate him as he was recently notified that he will represent Wiley as our 2016/17 Spotlight on Students! He will be recognized at a December BOE mtg. Thank you 5th grade team & Judy for the nomination!
- SHOUT OUT to FIRST Grade! The Hallway is looking awesome! Love, love, love the sweet potato stamped potatoes to represent how many pounds you donated. Also, love the student work that you have posted so far! I cannot wait to see it all complete!
- Shout out to Mary Whitehouse and Judy Williams for providing such a compassionate level love & support to our Wiley babies this week.
- Shout out to Ann for weaving the staff calendar, weekly blog posts, AESOP absences, and tons of random requests into a reliable & informative Daily Memo! THANK YOU! (Oh yeh, and she manages the budget, manages substitutes, handles field trips, places supply orders, administers medicines, ... )
General Updates
- The 11/22 scheduled UN Council Mtg will be canceled due to some logistical concerns. We will have our next UN Council Mtg on December 2. Stay tuned to learn about our activity.
- PTA’s ‘Winter Thanks’ will change a bit this year. Instead of a during-school celebration, PTA will honor our staff with a catered lunch in the media center just after dismissal on Friday, December 2nd (it’s an Early Release day). Cohorts will meet after Winter Thanks and they will have about an hour for their study.
IRT/Literacy Updates
- Calculators: All 3-5 classroom, CCR and AIG teachers, we are inventorying our calculator supply. Please take a moment to complete the CALCULATOR COUNT.
- TRC Progress Monitoring:
- Kathy Foglia and I are in the process of setting up the grade level (K-3) progress monitoring kits. If you have a student who needs progress monitoring for TRC, please see one of us so we can get you started.
Magnet Updates
- Hallway Display for Q2:
- Loved all the Dot Day display’s from first quarter!
- If you haven’t already… Don’t forget to start setting up your hallway display with a title/description and begin some sort of background for what your Q2 unit might include.
- Things to Think About:
- Possibly setting up display as a grade level vs. as a class.
- Include what will go in hallway and where as part of your planning.
- Selecting different items related to the same theme/unit to display for different students. (Example: Students 1-6 you display their writing, Students 7-12 you display a diagram or picture they made, Students 13-18 you display some math work, etc…) In the end something for every student is in the hall but not the same thing is in the hall over and over.
- Put some sort of border, backing or matting behind each student work.
- Do not hang them in a straight line, try to offset them.
- Include at least one 3D item per grade level.
- Make sure it looks neat (especially if you use butcher paper, make sure it is cut neatly or folded to hide the uneven edge.
- Don’t do it all in one day break it up so you do a part each week until you have it all complete.
Media & Technology
- Reminder: Students will report to the Media Center instead of Chinese for Monday Rotations. They do not need any materials.
- MTAC Committee: Lynn and Chris will be forming a new Media and Technology Advisory Committee. Please email Lynn at vchristiansen@wcpss.net if interested in serving on the team. We will meet monthly.
- Overdue Books: The Wiley Media Center has over 400 overdue books. Lynn will place overdue book reports into your boxes. Please help get our books back from the students.
