November 7

Shout-Outs & Celebrations
(Consider sharing your shout-out!)
  • Hela, Ute, and Yuko- For making global connections happen in their language classes! Through our partnership with Raleigh Sister Cities French, German, and Japanese have all been partnered with a school in either France, Germany, or Japan.  They have been corresponding with students in the other countries and are all working on sending videos to the other schools about themselves and Wiley! *There is not a Spanish-speaking partner … yet!
  • 1st Grade - Shout out for Global Goal ZERO HUNGER!  Teachers partnered with the Society of St. Andrews to coordinate a field trip opportunity.  The first graders went potato gleaning and all the potatoes they gleaned went to the Inter-faith Food Shuttle. Can’t wait to read about what the students write!
  • 3rd Grade- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how you incorporated The BFG into your Global Learning and across all subjects.  The hallway looks awesome so far, cannot wait to see it complete!
  • Magnet Fair helpers -
    • Thank you to Angi, Kathy J., Matt, Ryan, Katie D., and Michelle for help with setting up on Friday night!  I couldn’t have done it without you!  Everything looked amazing and we got many complements.
    • Thank you to Ute, Hela, Zandra, Lynn, Karen, Julie, Crystal, Matt, Carolyn, Margaret, Chris, Kristin, Katie W., and Leslie for being there to answer all the questions and representing Wiley!  Several parents were coming and asking me if they could pay someone to guarantee a spot at Wiley!
  • Congratulations to the:
    • Teacher of the Year: Eman Ziada Brandt
    • Teaching Assistant of the Year Elizabeth Montague
The Wiley family is honored that you are representing us!

  • Hallway Display for Q2:
    • Loved all the Dot Day display’s from first quarter!
    • If you haven’t already… Don’t forget to start setting up your hallway display with a title/description and begin some sort of background for what your Q2 unit might include.
    • Things to Think About:
      • Possibly setting up display as a grade level vs. as a class.
      • Include what will go in hallway and where as part of your planning.
      • Selecting different items related to the same theme/unit to display for different students.  (Example: Students 1-6 you display their writing, Students 7-12 you display a diagram or picture they made, Students 13-18 you display some math work, etc…) In the end something for every student is in the hall but not the same thing is in the hall over and over.
      • Put some sort of border, backing or matting behind each student work.
      • Do not hang them in a straight line, try to offset them.
      • Include at least one 3D item per grade level.
      • Make sure it looks neat (especially if you use butcher paper, make sure it is cut neatly or folded to hide the uneven edge.
      • Don’t do it all in one day break it up so you do a part each week until you have it all complete.
