General Updates

SIP/Leadership Team Meeting:  Please take a few minutes to review the agenda with discussion notes included from this week’s SIP/LT meeting - -https://docs.google.com/a/wcpss.net/document/d/1XgTgz7IlcS2c9bwzACmD66ZTQcoKfeexJ_OtNIu7v_I/edit?usp=sharing

Schedules: Submit schedules and provide your grade level’s plans for using your Monday “extra 45 minutes” to Leslie. Please submit paper copy of schedule to Leslie’s box.  Language Teachers/Specialists, please include your morning push-in time and location.  Language teachers, please include the classroom where you teach each block.

Picture Day: Picture Day is coming on Monday, October 3rd. Carol will put flyers in your mailboxes that need to go home in Monday folders. If parents ask, they do not need to prepay. Once they get the proofs, they'll decide if they want to order.

PDP preparation:  In preparation for next week’s PDP/learning cohort meeting, please take a few minutes to complete your self assessment in the teacher evaluation application. Remember that your orientation date was 8/22/16.  Help guides are embedded in the application, and log in access can be found here:  https://ncees.homebase.ncpublicschools.gov/alternateLogin.html Your UID can be found on your paystub. See Leslie or Katie if you need help!

Heads-up:  Friday, October 7th, our World Language teachers will attend a statewide conference.  In an effort to minimize the financial impact we will not secure substitutes, but will instead run the Monday schedule. Updates will be reflected in the Wiley Playbook soon.

From PTA:  BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION CONTEST - Please announce to your class and remind students weekly!!!
Deadline Monday, October 17th
Top 5 classes with the most boxtops collected win a popsicle party
*We will deliver a large manila envelope to each of your mailboxes either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.  It will have your name and will be labeled for BOX TOPS.  Please put up in your classroom (near the main door) for students to drop their boxtops in.  Hopefully, they will either have them stuck to a sheet that we sent home in Monday folders or in baggies.  The sheets DO NOT HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY FULL and they can just turn in loose boxtops!  We will take any amounts!
*A PTA representative will come by on a weekly basis to collect the boxtops and count them.  We will try to have a progress chart showing the top 5 classrooms somewhere outside the office/media center.  If your envelope is getting too full, please email vp.waysandmeans@wileypta.org and we will collect them early.

IRT/Literacy Updates

  • Just a reminder that the mClass window closes end of the school day on Monday, September 26th. All DIBELS assessments should be complete and TRCs should have been started.
  • Interims for grades 2-5 will be sent home the week of September 26th. Kindergarten and First grade will not send interims home for Quarter 1, but, MCLASS letters and NKT information will be shared during October conferences.

Magnet Updates

  • International Opportunities:
    • International Festival: October 14-16 NOW OPEN FOR FIELD TRIPS FRIDAY the 14th starting at 10am.  Check out their website for more information. http://www.internationalfocusnc.org/
    • Chinese Language/Dance Experience for Adults: Click HERE for link to Flyer.

  • Hallway Display for Q1:
    • Don’t forget to start setting up your hallway display with a title/description and begin some sort of background for what your Q1 unit might include.
    • Things to Think About:
      • Possibly setting up display as a grade level vs. as a class.
      • Include what will go in hallway and where as part of your planning.
      • Selecting different items related to the same theme/unit to display for different students.  (Example: Students 1-6 you display their writing, Students 7-12 you display a diagram or picture they made, Students 13-18 you display some math work, etc…) In the end something for every student is in the hall but not the same thing is in the hall over and over.
      • Put some sort of border, backing or matting behind each student work.
      • Do not hang them in a straight line, try to offset them.
      • Include at least one 3D item per grade level.
      • Make sure it looks neat (especially if you use butcher paper, make sure it is cut neatly or folded to hide the uneven edge.
      • Don’t do it all in one day break it up so you do a part each week until you have it all complete.
